The Social Economy Conference; A Vision of Good Practice
took place on Wednesday 2nd November at the Somme Heritage Centre, Newtownards.
The event showcased many of the community enterprises who have benefited
from the Advance Ards Programme.
The event, chaired by the CEO of Colin Glen Trust, Tim Duffy, included social
economy expert Colin Stutt, speaking on the impact of the social economy
in the Ards area. Lesley Johnston, Advance Ards, gave an update on the success
of the programme and its achievements over the past two years. Further speakers
included Cecil Graham, founder of a number of successful social enterprises
within N Ireland, including Daisies Café, a flagship social economy
business based in Newtownards. Derek McCallan, Director of Development,
Ards Borough Council presented his vision for the social economy in Ards
Borough over the next ten years.
